In 1990, Craig McLachlan joined the cast of the long-running Australian soap Home and Away, stepping into the role of schoolteacher Grant Mitchell. His character quickly became a fan favourite, bringing warmth, humour, and a touch of charm to Summer Bay.

After three years living in the chilly climes of fictional Erinsborough (an outer suburb of Melbourne) I made the move to the idyllic sounding and warmer wonderland that is Summer Bay. One minute I’m running out of Mrs Mangels laundry door and down her back steps in the buff, the next minute I’m teaching teenage students at Summer Bay High School. From dealing with dreamy-eyed young student crushes, to regularly having it out with Don Fischer the school principal, I definitely had my hands full as Mr Mitchell the new schoolteacher.
At least there was a certain familiarity with this new role, in that, again, I spent a fair bit of time with not a lot on! Mr Mitchell, a community minded and charitable chap was an active member of the surf lifesaving club and as such, was an active and regular wearer of Speedos!
