On Stage

Craig has tackled some of the biggest roles in musical theatre in his career, and consistently won awards and applause along the way.

In 1993 he took on Grease, starring as Danny Zuko in the West End revival. It broke all existing box office records, with sell-out crowds for the initial nine-month season. His duet with co-star Deborah Gibson of ‘You’re the One that I want’ went to number 13 on the UK Singles Chart.

He has starred as Caractacus Potts in the London Palladium Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bob Wallace in White Christmas and Billy Flynn in the Australian and Asian productions of the classic musical Chicago.

Craig’s most acclaimed stage role to date has been Dr. Frank N Furter in the Rocky Horror Show. Craig originally played Dr. Frank in the Australian stage show in 1993, and in 2014, yes that is correct, 20 years later, he returned to the role for the 40th Anniversary production. Craig was awarded the 2014 Helpmann Awaard for ‘Best Male Actor in a Musical’ for his depiction of the Transylvanian Transvestite Frank.  It is with great anticipation that Craig will return to the The Rocky Horror Show stage for Sydney and Melbourne in 2015.

“He first took to the stage as Frank N Furter, the outer-galactic transvestite in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, 20 years ago, and Craig McLachlan still looks incredible in his costume.”

“McLachlan makes Rocky Horror an absolute pleasure.”
– Sydney Morning Herald

“There’s great work all round in this, but truly it belongs to McLachlan, who plays to the audience magnificently deploying a knowing arch camp exquisitely but never missing a beat as he plays to crowd reactions with immaculately timed and hilarious ad-libs.”
– Daily Telegraph
